Celery processing equipment

Compare supported base trimming, stalk washing, cutting and packing without treating celeriac as stalk celery.

Crop guide · Celery preprocessing

Start with the retained product

This guide covers stalk celery. Celeriac is a root crop with a different preparation route. Separate intact bunches, individual sticks and cut ingredients before choosing base trimming, leaf removal and cutting. Fengxiang publishes a stalk-celery root-end cutting demonstration; its presentation and discharge explain one operation, not a complete washed and packed line.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Bunches or intact stalks

Inspect → trim base and specified leaves → separate/wash as required → drain → grade → pack.

Define whether the bunch remains connected.

Snack sticks

Separate stalks → trim → wash in the agreed order → cut supported lengths → inspect/drain → pack.

Curvature and hollow channels affect alignment and collection.

Cut ingredients

Prepare stalks → configured transverse cutting → inspect/wash as specified → drain → dose.

Leaf inclusion and accepted fines are recipe choices.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: expose channels and trapped debris

KRONEN HEWA 3800 · Manufacturer equipment image; general washing-family reference

KRONEN HEWA 3800

General washing-family reference, not a confirmed celery configuration. Confirm retention, water movement, loading and supported outfeed for the chosen route.

Decide whether washing occurs with stalks attached or separated. Check the inner surfaces and leaf joints, retention at screens and supported outfeed. A general leafy washer does not establish a complete celery configuration or removal of material hidden between stalks.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: support stalks during base removal

KRONEN

Supported manual preparation with separate waste collection. Define the retained celery ends, leaves, skin or roots before selecting automation.

The Fengxiang film shows operators presenting stalk celery to a supported feed and separate discharge areas. Specify the retained base, leaf length and edible loss. Ask how curved stalks and uneven bunches are held; do not assume automatic recognition from a short demonstration.

Cutting: choose sticks or cross-cut pieces

KRONEN GS 10-2 · Manufacturer equipment reference

KRONEN GS 10-2

General cutting-family reference for prepared input. Confirm actual celery support and tooling; peeling, dehusking and every cut form are not established.

Specify lengths, accepted split ribs and leaf inclusion. A belt cutter needs the right feed support and tooling for celery. Inspect strings, crushing and incomplete cuts. A base trimmer is a separate machine from the referenced general belt cutter.

Sorting: inspect rib condition and size separately

Herbort Inspection Belt 85 · Manufacturer workshop photograph; manual inspection reference

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

Manual inspection reference. Confirm presentation and separate rejects for celery. It does not establish optical grading or internal-defect detection.

Define accepted curvature, splits, remaining leaves and damaged ends. Present stalks or pieces so the operator can see them. A manual inspection belt does not establish automatic colour, internal-defect or weight grading.

Dewatering: drain channels as well as surfaces

Check residual water within curved ribs and at leaf joints after realistic collection. Trial supported drainage or supplier-proposed air systems. Do not transfer a leafy-spin recipe to long sticks without checking breakage and the next transfer.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: match the feeder to bunches or sticks

KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

General packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual celery feeder, doser, pack and seals. It does not establish whole-product fit, tray feeding, a MAP recipe or shelf life.

Long stalks can bridge dosing hoppers or intrude into seals. Compare oriented trays or bags with a configured cut-product feeder. The bagger reference does not prove bunch wrapping, tray feeding, a MAP setting or shelf life.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

Watch supported stalk presentation and separate discharge

The official Fengxiang film identifies celery root-end cutting. Look at support and collection, then specify retained base and leaf length with actual stalks. It is not a celeriac peeling demonstration, a complete wash line or evidence of automatic end recognition.

Prepare a celery equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing celery equipment

Does this page cover celeriac?

No. Stalk celery retains ribs and sometimes leaves. Celeriac requires root cleaning and peeling. Specify the actual incoming crop before comparing machines.
