Crop guide · Garlic chives preprocessing
Start with the retained product
This page concerns flat garlic-chive leaves, commonly called Chinese chives. Bulb separation and dry garlic-clove peeling are different processes. KRONEN demonstrates herb cutting including chives, but that family evidence is not an exact garlic-chive trial. Test actual flat leaves, lengths and flowering stems rather than assuming all chive crops feed alike.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole leaf bunches
Receive → remove unwanted ends/leaves → wash as specified → inspect → drain → align/bunch → pack.
Agree the retained basal end and leaf length.
Loose trimmed leaves
Pre-clean → trim → wash/separate → inspect → dewater → portion.
Preserve the agreed long-leaf format through transfers.
Short-cut ingredients
Prepare → align/feed → cross-cut → final wash if specified → dewater → dose.
Specify the cut length, leaf/stem mix and fines limit with samples.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: keep flat leaves moving through the wash

KRONEN HEWA 3800
General washing-family reference, not a confirmed garlic chives installation. Confirm retention, water movement, loading, outfeed and the selected whole or cut-product route.
Test bunch opening, leaf separation and retention at screens. Agree the location of the wash relative to cutting and the treatment of basal soil. The general washer image does not establish a garlic-chive setting or microbial result.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: define the retained basal portion

KRONEN
Supported manual preparation with separate waste collection. Define acceptable garlic chives ends, skin, leaves or caps and useful trim loss before selecting automation.
Use the preparation station to compare acceptable ends, damaged leaves and flowering stems. Keep soil-heavy trim waste separate. A bulb-garlic air peeler is not a leaf-trimming machine and is not proposed for this crop.
Cutting: trial the flat-leaf feed

KRONEN GS 10-2
General GS 10-2 cutting reference. Confirm actual garlic chives support, input fit and tooling. Compare the pictured model and tooling with the actual arrangement in the film.
The official herb film illustrates supported feeding and cut collection. Garlic chives require their own feed trial, especially long flexible leaves and mixed stems. Compare tangling, smearing, incomplete cuts and usable short pieces after discharge.
Sorting: present leaves so defects remain visible

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Manual inspection reference. Compare product presentation, visibility and separate rejects. It does not establish optical grading, internal-defect detection or automatic colour mixing.
Inspect unwanted material and damaged leaves before cutting, then fines and oversized pieces afterwards. Define the accepted leaf/stem mix. A general manual conveyor does not measure species identity or detect every hidden contaminant.
Dewatering: check loss through basket perforations

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS
General removable-basket reference for a supplier-confirmed cut-product route. Test actual garlic chives retention, damage and free water; whole products may need supported drainage instead.
Long leaves and short cuts behave differently. Confirm basket mesh, loading and discharge with actual garlic chives. Assess carried water, tangling and bruising after a realistic hold; no general leafy-vegetable cycle is prescribed.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: separate bunch packing from cut-leaf dosing

KRONEN FLEX L
Packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual garlic chives feeder, doser, pack length and seals. It does not establish a punnet filler, shrink-wrapper, bunch packer or every MAP option.
Align full leaves for the chosen bag or sleeve. Loose cuts need a feeder trial for bridging and product in seals. Confirm the offered doser and pack format instead of assuming the pictured vertical bagger accepts bunches.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Compare herb input support with the collected cut product
KRONEN describes parsley and chives in this herb-cutting film. It is a family reference, not an identified garlic-chive run. Compare flat-leaf support, tangling and cut collection with actual garlic chives.

- Around 1:15: Small green cut-herb pieces are shown close to the collection surface.
- Around 3:47: Broad leafy herbs and stems lie on the supported infeed.
Current manufacturer links and source identity were checked. Confirm the offered version and configuration separately from historical demonstration footage. No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.
Prepare a garlic chives equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing garlic chives equipment
Is a generic chives video an exact garlic-chive demonstration?
No. It is a clearly labelled herb-family reference. Flat garlic-chive leaves and flowering stems still need a representative supplier trial.
