Green pea processing equipment

Retain garden-pea seeds by shelling fresh pods; edible whole-pod peas and dry pulses are separate routes.

Crop guide · Green pea preprocessing

Start with the retained product

Green garden peas are the seeds removed from fresh pods. Snow peas and sugar snap peas may retain their edible pods; dry pea dehulling is a different duty again. The Wenming fresh-pod sheller reference and linked film need a garden-pea trial: bean and edamame examples do not prove the same setting or retention for small round peas.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Fresh shell-on pods

Inspect → configured cleaning → supported drain → grade → pack.

Do not shell when the buyer wants intact garden-pea pods.

Shelled green peas

Inspect/clean incoming pods → shell → separate empty pods → wash/inspect seeds as specified → drain → dose.

Keep intact seeds; shelling is not deliberate seed cutting.

Inputs for freezing or cooking

Shell and separate → inspect/wash/drain → dedicated downstream treatment.

Blanching, freezing and thermal preservation need separate equipment.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: separate pod cleaning from seed washing

KRONEN HEWA 3800 · Manufacturer equipment image; general washing-family reference

KRONEN HEWA 3800

General washing-family reference, not a confirmed green pea installation. Confirm size, retention, water movement, loading and outfeed for the chosen route.

Incoming pods carry a different debris load from shelled peas. Confirm the order and water circuit for each route. Retain the smallest accepted seed at every screen and gap. The general washer reference is not proof of a pea-specific configuration.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: shell gently and separate pod waste

Wenming

The manufacturer illustration includes bean/edamame examples. Request a garden-pea trial for seed size, breakage and waste separation; no exact garden-pea result is inferred.

Fresh-pod shelling opens the pod to retain seeds. Wenming lists a green-pea sheller, but the illustrated examples include beans/edamame, so trial actual garden peas. Check unopened pods, broken seeds, seed carryover in waste and cleaning access rather than assuming a dry-pulse dehuller is suitable.

Cutting: bypass a cutter when intact peas are wanted

Whole shelled peas do not require a cross-cutting stage. Separate lumps and remaining pod fragments by the agreed inspection method. Puree or crushed-pea recipes need a separately specified size-reduction process; a pod sheller is not that machine.

Sorting: inspect seeds after shelling

Herbort Inspection Belt 85 · Manufacturer workshop photograph; manual inspection reference

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

Manual inspection reference. Confirm visibility, useful retention and separate rejects for green pea. It does not establish optical grading or internal-defect detection.

Compare whole and split peas, pod fragments, colour and unwanted material. Confirm whether optical sorting is justified with actual samples; the pictured manual belt does not establish colour sensing or detection of every foreign body. Keep rejects separate from edible seeds.

Dewatering: retain small round seeds during drainage

Check screen openings, belt gaps and discharge height with the smallest useful peas. Compare free water with seed breakage after holding and transfer. The bean-family sheller film establishes neither a garden-pea dewatering cycle nor a residual-moisture result.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: use a small-seed retention and dose trial

KRONEN FLEX L vertical bagging machine
KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

General packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual green pea feeder, doser, pack and seals. It does not establish whole-fruit fit, tray sealing, frozen packing or a MAP recipe.

Check pea escape at the hopper, weighing buckets and bag-forming area. Intact pods need a different feeder. The bagger photograph is a family reference; frozen products, gas options and seal integrity require the actual offered configuration.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

Distinguish fresh-pod shelling from cutting edible pods

Wenming links this fresh-bean shelling film from its green-pea-sheller page. Bean and edamame examples are not proof of garden-pea settings. Compare pod separation, seed retention and waste collection, then request a garden-pea-specific trial. Shelling retains seeds; it is not a green-bean cross-cutting operation.

Prepare a green pea equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing green pea equipment

Should green garden peas pass through a vegetable cutter?

Not when intact seeds are the finished product. Shelling opens pods and separates waste; deliberate cutting or pureeing is a separate recipe-specific duty.
