Crop guide · Snow pea preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Snow peas, or mangetout, are sold for their flat edible pods. Shelling would remove the product the buyer wants. Define the retained tips, string removal and acceptance of curved or filled pods. Wenming lists snow peas for its end-trimming family, while the linked film is identified as string beans; exact flat-pod fit and string removal require a separate trial.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole trimmed pods
Inspect → trim required tips/strings → configured wash → gentle drain → grade → pack.
Keep the flat pod intact and define acceptable seed enlargement.
Cut ingredients
Prepare/trim → supported portioning if requested → inspect → wash/drain as specified → dose.
Cutting is optional rather than the default whole-pod route.
Inputs for a separate frozen product
Prepare/trim/wash → inspect → dedicated downstream treatment and cooling → pack.
A washer or trimmer does not provide blanching or freezing.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: retain thin pods and protect edges

KRONEN HEWA 3800
General washing-family reference, not a confirmed snow pea configuration. Confirm retention, water movement, loading and supported outfeed for the chosen route.
Trial flat pods at screens, overflow outlets and the outfeed. Specify soil load, water management and supported transfer. A general washer image is not a verified snow-pea configuration. Separate wash-water carryover from liquid released by broken pods.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: specify strings separately from tips

Wenming
Wenming explicitly lists snow peas. Trial thin flat pods, retained tips and strings; the linked bean-family film does not establish destringing or snap-pod acceptance.
Agree the cut at each end and whether the string must be removed. Wenming explicitly names snow peas in its trimming listing, but the drum film shows a bean-family example. Demonstrate actual flat pods and measure missed ends, excess trim and residual strings; end cutting alone does not prove destringing.
Cutting: bypass slicing for intact pods
Whole snow peas do not need a repeated cross-cut. If short pieces are requested, trial a supported cutter for thin flexible pods and compare folds, incomplete cuts and ragged edges. Do not send edible-pod peas through a seed sheller.
Sorting: inspect flatness and retained presentation

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Manual inspection reference. Confirm presentation and separate rejects for snow pea. It does not establish optical grading or internal-defect detection.
Use size, visible condition and the accepted seed fill as separate criteria. Check strings and damaged tips after trimming. Manual inspection can expose defects with the right presentation; the conveyor image does not establish automatic maturity or internal-defect detection.
Dewatering: remove free water without crushing pods
Compare supported drainage with any supplier-proposed air or belt system. Do not assume a leafy spin programme is gentle enough. Inspect split seams, flattened pods and residual water after collection and holding, then check retention of the smallest accepted pods.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: preserve whole-pod presentation

KRONEN FLEX L
General packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual snow pea feeder, doser, pack and seals. It does not establish whole-product fit, tray feeding, a MAP recipe or shelf life.
Compare aligned trays or punnets with a configured bagging route. Whole pods can bridge a hopper or enter seals. The bagger reference does not establish a tray filler, snow-pea feeder or a shelf-life result; trial the actual doser, film and transfer drops.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Compare the rotating drum and outlet before a pod trial
Wenming links this string-bean-family film from a product listing that also names snow peas. The inspected views explain drum layout; they do not establish an identified snow-pea or sugar-snap run. Compare thin-pod retention and missed ends in a separate crop trial. End trimming does not establish string removal.

Prepare a snow pea equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing snow pea equipment
Does a pea sheller prepare whole snow peas?
No. Snow peas retain their edible pod. Specify end and string removal; shelling the pod to retain only seeds is a different product.
