Crop guide · Sugar snap pea preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Sugar snap peas retain both the fleshy edible pod and its seeds. They differ from flat snow peas and shelled garden peas. Define the actual variety and buyer requirement for strings before selecting trimming. The illustrated end trimmer is a related bean/snow-pea family, not a confirmed sugar-snap configuration or automatic destringer.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole edible pods
Inspect → trim and remove strings as required → configured wash → drain → grade → pack.
Retain the plump pod and accepted seed fill.
Prepared portions
Prepare whole pods → optional supported cut → inspect seams → drain → portion/pack.
Do not infer a slicing duty when whole pods are the buyer specification.
Inputs for separate freezing
Prepare/wash/inspect → dedicated downstream treatment → controlled cooling/drainage → freezing/pack.
Agree the complete downstream process separately.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: support plump pods without splitting seams

KRONEN HEWA 3800
General washing-family reference, not a confirmed sugar snap pea configuration. Confirm retention, water movement, loading and supported outfeed for the chosen route.
Trial the actual variety, maturity and fill at realistic loading. Compare friction, collisions and wash retention. The generic washer is a family reference only. Define collection and water management without promising a microbial or storage result.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: check both string and end requirements

KRONEN
Supported manual preparation with separate waste collection. Define the retained sugar snap pea ends, leaves, skin or roots before selecting automation.
Show accepted samples with the retained seam and tip condition. Related snow-pea or green-bean end trimming does not establish sugar-snap fit. Confirm whether string removal is needed for the supplied variety, and compare manual preparation with a crop-specific machine trial.
Cutting: keep intact pods away from shellers
Whole sugar snaps generally bypass cutting. If halves or short pieces are wanted, agree orientation and support and inspect crushed seeds or opened seams. The general belt cutter is not a proven snap-pea arrangement or a substitute for string removal.
Sorting: separate seed fill from defects

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Manual inspection reference. Confirm presentation and separate rejects for sugar snap pea. It does not establish optical grading or internal-defect detection.
Inspect visible damage, seam integrity, remaining strings and accepted size. A fuller pod is not automatically a reject; agree the buyer standard for the actual variety. The manual inspection reference does not measure sweetness or provide internal scanning.
Dewatering: assess moisture after the intended hold
Retain plump pods on screens and minimise pressure during drainage. Trial any proposed air or continuous method before specifying it. Compare seam opening, scuffing and free water after transfer; a snow-pea trial alone does not establish a sugar-snap dewatering setting.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: keep pod tips out of the seal

KRONEN FLEX L
General packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual sugar snap pea feeder, doser, pack and seals. It does not establish whole-product fit, tray feeding, a MAP recipe or shelf life.
Select trays, punnets or bags around the required presentation. Whole plump pods need a feeder trial for bridging, punctures and drops. The bagger image describes a general family; exact dose control, film, seals and gas options remain configuration questions.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Compare the rotating drum and outlet before a pod trial
Wenming links this string-bean-family film from a product listing that also names snow peas. The inspected views explain drum layout; they do not establish an identified snow-pea or sugar-snap run. Compare thin-pod retention and missed ends in a separate crop trial. End trimming does not establish string removal.

No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.
Prepare a sugar snap pea equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing sugar snap pea equipment
Does a snow-pea trimmer automatically fit sugar snap peas?
No fit is established. Their pod thickness and seed fill differ. Trial actual snap peas, and verify string removal independently of tip cutting.
