Crop guide · Turnip preprocessing
Start with the retained product
This guide concerns the swollen turnip root. Define skin retention, top and tail cuts, and whole or cut output. Turnip greens need a separate leaf route. A manufacturer reference to cabbage turnip or kohlrabi must not be treated as proof of ordinary turnip suitability.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Washed skin-on roots
Receive → remove unwanted tops/soil → wash → inspect/size-select → drain → pack.
Retain the desired skin and provide a peeler bypass.
Peeled roots or sections
Pre-clean → top/tail → configured peeling → manual touch-up → final wash/drain → pack.
Confirm the actual turnip shape and peel standard with the supplier.
Slices, sticks or dices
Prepare roots → peel if required → pre-size/feed → configured cutting → wash/dewater → dose.
Agree cut samples and the route for oversize roots and useful rework.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: separate soil removal from the final wash

KRONEN
General water-handling reference. Use only for the selected turnip wet route, with supplier-confirmed retention, loading, outfeed and water management. It is not a measured crop-cleaning result.

KRONEN GEWA 3800 ECO
General water-handling reference. Use only for the selected turnip wet route, with supplier-confirmed retention, loading, outfeed and water management. It is not a measured crop-cleaning result.
The KRONEN root-line references illustrate a water bunker and downstream washing. Confirm turnip retention, stones, soil loading and outlet gaps. Check that small roots do not leave with waste; do not infer a turnip cleaning result from a potato installation.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: define what is retained at crown and tail

KRONEN PL 40K
Root-family peeling reference only. Confirm ordinary turnip roots with actual sizes and peel samples; the kohlrabi listing is not a turnip acceptance result. Keep a bypass for skin-on products.
Compare skin-on and peeled acceptance samples before choosing an abrasive or knife route. The pictured PL 40K is a root-family reference; an explicit kohlrabi listing is not an ordinary-turnip trial. Include irregular shoulders and manual touch-up.
Cutting: specify pieces before choosing tooling

KRONEN GS 10-2
Feed and cutting-assembly detail for explanation. Confirm actual turnip support and tooling. Operation and service must follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures.

KRONEN KUJ-V
A fine-cutting family for prepared inputs. Specify turnip input fit, tools and desired pieces. This is not proof of whole rings, paste texture or any downstream preservation process.
A belt cutter and KUJ-V-type dicer show different feed arrangements. Agree the largest turnip entering the machine, any permitted pre-cutting, and accepted slices or dices. Check crushed edges, oversize, fines and usable output.
Sorting: inspect the root before and after preparation

KRONEN
Manual inspection reference: compare product presentation, visibility, good-product collection and rejects. It does not establish automatic grading or internal-defect detection.
Set size bands separately from defects, peel remnants and cut quality. A roller table presents roots to operators; it is not proof of automatic optical grading or detection of every internal defect.
Dewatering: compare draining roots with dewatering cuts

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS
General removable-basket reference for a supplier-confirmed wet route. Compare actual turnip retention, damage and free water. Dry bulbs or dry pneumatic peeling may bypass this duty.
Whole roots may use supported drainage. Cut pieces need a crop-and-cut-specific trial of the proposed method. Check free water, fines and damage after holding and transfer; a basket reference does not define a turnip cycle.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: match feed to whole roots or loose cuts

KRONEN FLEX L
Compare the actual turnip feeder, doser, pack and seal clearance. Whole products, bunches and pastes can need different equipment; the image does not establish every feeding or MAP option.
Whole roots need a suitable bag/tray presentation. Diced ingredients need configured dosing and controlled drops. Trial bridges, weight, water and product in seals. Specify any gas packaging separately.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Compare feed and tool changes across products
The KRONEN GS 10-2 montage shows prepared-root feeding and cutting. Compare input support and knife choice for this crop. It is not an exact turnip or parsnip run and establishes no crop output or yield.

Prepare a turnip equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing turnip equipment
Does a kohlrabi application listing prove that a peeler handles turnips?
No. Confirm ordinary turnip roots with representative size, shape and peel samples. The equipment family is a starting point for that trial, not proof of the final setup.
