Zucchini processing equipment

Compare intact courgettes, cross-cut pieces and vegetable spirals before choosing feed and tooling.

Crop guide · Zucchini preprocessing

Start with the retained product

Zucchini, also called courgette, can leave the line whole, sliced or as long spirals. These formats need different retention and collection. KRONEN explicitly lists zucchini for Spirello 150 spiral cutting; that does not make the same machine a washer, round slicer or whole-fruit packer. Decide skin retention and accepted seed core before a trial.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Whole courgettes

Inspect → trim ends if required → configured wash → drain → grade → pack.

Protect the skin and keep the fruit supported.

Rounds or short pieces

Pre-clean → trim → align/feed → slice or portion → final wash as specified → drain → pack.

Set acceptable end pieces, seed centres and cut surfaces.

Spirals or zoodles

Prepare → trim to holder → centre → spiral-cut → collect gently → portion/pack.

Specify strand shape, residual core and breakage rather than a generic slicing duty.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: protect the tender skin

KRONEN HEWA 3800 · Manufacturer equipment image; general washing-family reference

KRONEN HEWA 3800

General washing-family reference, not a confirmed zucchini installation. Confirm size, retention, water movement, loading and outfeed for the chosen route.

Trial whole fruit and prepared pieces separately. Specify soil removal, screen retention and water movement without rubbing the skin excessively. Separate initial cleaning from any final wash after cutting; a general washer image is not a demonstrated zucchini setting.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: prepare ends for the selected holder

KRONEN · Manufacturer workstation photograph; general preparation

KRONEN

Supported manual preparation with separate waste collection. Define the retained zucchini ends, skin, core or pod before selecting automation.

Agree stem and blossom-end removal and whether skin stays. Spiral cutting needs stable presentation and suitable centring; large soft seed centres may affect useful strands. The manual table illustrates supported preparation, not automatic seed-core recognition.

Cutting: choose slices or spirals deliberately

KRONEN Spirello 150

Zucchini is explicitly listed for this spiral cutter. Confirm centring, accepted seed core, strands and useful end waste. A spiral cutter is not a washer or round slicer.

KRONEN Spirello 150

Compare the actual holder, centring and insert with your courgette shape. This detail explains tooling selection; it does not prove every diameter or output.

KRONEN GS 10-2 belt cutting machine and infeed conveyor
KRONEN GS 10-2 · Manufacturer equipment reference

KRONEN GS 10-2

General belt-cutting reference for prepared input. Confirm actual zucchini support, accepted pieces and tooling; no whole-fruit splitting or automatic peeling is established.

Spirello uses dedicated holders and spiral-cutting inserts. Compare actual courgette diameter, straightness, core waste and strand length. A GS belt cutter is a separate reference for portions or slices, requiring its own supported feed and knife confirmation.

Sorting: grade whole fruit before cutting

Herbort Inspection Belt 85 · Manufacturer workshop photograph; manual inspection reference

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

Manual inspection reference. Confirm visibility, useful retention and separate rejects for zucchini. It does not establish optical grading or internal-defect detection.

Inspect size, curvature and visible skin damage, then review strands or rounds for poor cuts and unwanted cores. Manual inspection is not automatic internal-defect detection. Keep rejects and recoverable ends separate from finished product.

Dewatering: drain pieces without breaking strands

Whole fruit can use supported drainage; long spirals need a gentle supplier-confirmed water-removal and discharge method. Do not assume a leafy spin cycle. Compare tangling, pooled water and breakage after transfer and a realistic hold.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: dose without compressing the cut

KRONEN FLEX L vertical bagging machine
KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

General packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual zucchini feeder, doser, pack and seals. It does not establish whole-fruit fit, tray sealing, frozen packing or a MAP recipe.

Whole courgettes, trays of rounds and loose spirals require different feeding. Test strand bridging, gentle drops and seal clearance. The FLEX L image explains a bagging family only; confirm the actual feeder, doser and pack presentation.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

KRONEN links this Spirello film and explicitly lists zucchini on its current product page. Compare stable centring and the selected holder with your courgettes. The observed holder scene is a machine-family reference, not an identified zucchini acceptance test or a yield measurement.

Prepare a zucchini equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing zucchini equipment

Can a spiral cutter also make zucchini rounds?

Not from the spiral tooling shown. Specify rounds and spirals as separate cutting duties and obtain the correct holder, knife and accepted output sample.
