Food cutting yield & portion-weight trials

Measure accepted cuts, weight distribution and losses using an agreed sampling basis.

Agree the measurement basis

  • Record trial lots, incoming condition, preparation and tool identification.
  • Agree sample size, instruments, sampling points and repeat runs.
  • Report accepted pieces, dimensional distribution, fines and rejects separately.
  • For weight-controlled duties, record portion-weight distribution and giveaway on an agreed basis.
  • Separate mechanical cut counts from accepted output and include stops, sharpening and changeovers.

Define acceptance before the demonstration

Use project-specific limits and sampling. Account for material retained or lost at feeding and discharge; do not assign a universal tolerance, yield or zero-giveaway promise. Supplier test services and technology-center descriptions do not establish completed trials.

Questions to settle before a quotation

  • Which ingredient variations and tool conditions must the trial represent?
  • How are weight, cut dimensions, fines and losses sampled?
  • Who reviews the results and accepts the installed line?

Ask bidders to state trial material, accepted output, losses, utilities, changeover time and scope exclusions in writing. Compare the offered configuration using the same recipe and acceptance criteria.
