Crop guide · Broccoli preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Choose whole crowns, separated florets or cut stalk ingredients before specifying the line. Each form needs different support, cutting and inspection. Manufacturer references include broccoli floretting and a documented broccoli/cauliflower preparation and washing line.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole crowns
Trim outer material and stalk → inspect → specified wash/drain route → support and pack.
Bypass the floretter and protect the required crown.
Fresh-cut florets
Trim → orient heads → decore/divide → inspect and size-select → wash → dewater → pack.
Define oversize, secondary cutting, fines and rework separately.
Stalk ingredients or vegetable rice
Select useful stalk → trim/peel to the brief → fine-cut → configured wash/dewater → portion.
Fine cutting retained stalks is distinct from separating a head into florets.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: wash prepared florets as a distinct product

KRONEN GEWA 5000 PLUS
Compare the water path, loading, product retention and outfeed with actual broccoli. An illustrated machine or line stage is not an independently measured crop-cleaning result.
KRONEN documents GEWA 5000 PLUS washing after broccoli/cauliflower preparation. Trial your own floret size, debris load and damage standard. Whole crowns need their own loading and discharge brief.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: set crown and useful-stalk boundaries

KRONEN
A supported preparation surface with separate collection paths. Define the accepted broccoli portion before removing leaves, stalks, bases or other unwanted material.
Show accepted outer-leaf removal, stalk length and useful stalk collection. Compare separate raw-feed, good-product and waste paths. Confirm head presentation before adding automatic decoring.
Cutting: separate decoring from final floret sizing

Sweere Floreto
Compare the retained head/floret form, carrier orientation and supplied knife configuration. A manufacturer application listing does not replace a broccoli trial.

KRONEN KUJ-V
A fine-cutting family for prepared inputs. It does not remove an intact head core. Specify input fit, tooling and desired pieces before adopting it for broccoli.
Sweere lists broccoli for Floreto. Agree head presentation and knife configuration. Inspect oversize, stem remnants, loose buds and fines. The KUJ-V reference concerns a separate fine-cut route.
Sorting: grade useful florets and manage rework

KRONEN
Compare presentation, operator visibility, good-product collection and rejects. This reference does not prove automated detection, grading or a broccoli rejection rate.
Define size and visual acceptance with samples. Compare manual inspection and any proposed size grader. Mechanical size selection does not establish detection of every foreign object or quality defect.
Dewatering: protect the floret structure during water removal
Specify draining support and transfer drops. Trial the actual proposed dewatering method and inspect broken buds, free water and fines after holding. Do not apply a lettuce programme without a broccoli trial.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: keep crown and floret feeds distinct

KRONEN FLEX L
Compare the actual broccoli doser, drop, pack and seal clearance. Whole products or bunches may require different presentation. This reference does not establish every feeding or MAP option.
Crowns need support and orientation; loose florets need configured weighing and controlled drops. Check loose buds, water, weight and seal clearance. Obtain any MAP hardware and film specification separately.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Watch head orientation and floret collection
The actual broccoli film makes the carrier orientation and collection visible. Inspect retained stem, floret shape and fines in your own trial; this demonstration supplies no measured yield or current-line guarantee.

- Around 0:40: An operator places broccoli on individual carriers with the stalks pointing upward.

Prepare a broccoli equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing broccoli equipment
Does a floretter guarantee uniform retail-sized florets?
Not by its name alone. Agree accepted florets, oversize, secondary cutting, fines and rework in a representative trial.
