Crop guide · Cherry tomato preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Cherry and grape tomatoes need small-fruit controls at every opening, transfer and doser. Define loose fruit or retained trusses, calyx condition, mixed colours and the intended pack. The Tona V image and film demonstrate a tomato-cutting family, not verified cherry-tomato holders or a complete small-fruit line.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Loose whole fruit
Inspect → de-stem if required → configured gentle wash → drain/air-remove surface water → grade → punnet or pack.
Check the smallest fruit at all gaps and waste outlets.
Truss presentation
Inspect attached fruit → specified preparation/wash route → supported drainage → grade truss → pack.
Keep attachment and stem protection in the brief.
Halved salad ingredients
Prepare/wash → inspect → supplier-confirmed small-fruit holders/cutter → gentle collection → dose.
Do not infer small-fruit suitability from a maximum cutter input size.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: verify minimum fruit size at screens

KRONEN HEWA 3800
General washing-family reference, not a confirmed cherry tomato installation. Confirm retention, water movement, loading, outfeed and the selected whole or cut-product route.
Small fruit may escape at openings suitable for larger tomatoes. Trial loose and attached fruit separately, including outfeed and waste paths. Confirm washing and collection with the actual maturity; the general washer reference is not a validated cherry-tomato installation.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: retain or remove calyx deliberately

KRONEN
Supported manual preparation with separate waste collection. Define acceptable cherry tomato ends, skin, leaves or caps and useful trim loss before selecting automation.
Decide whether the finished pack contains stem-free fruit or trusses. Compare stem damage, torn attachment points and unwanted debris. A manual preparation table helps establish acceptance samples without assuming a universal de-stemming device.
Cutting: confirm small-fruit retention before halving

KRONEN Tona V
Tona V explicitly lists tomato segments. Confirm the required cut and secure holder fit. The listing is not proof of cherry-tomato retention or every small-fruit insert.
The Tona V source lists tomatoes generally. A holder accepting large fruit does not prove secure retention of cherry tomatoes. Ask for the actual small-fruit tooling and cut demonstration; measure missed cuts, crushing and useful halves.
Sorting: define small-fruit grades and colour mixes

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Manual inspection reference. Compare product presentation, visibility and separate rejects. It does not establish optical grading, internal-defect detection or automatic colour mixing.
Set diameter or weight bands, visible defects and colour requirements separately. Truss packs require attachment inspection. A manual belt can present fruit, but automatic colour or size sorting needs its own specified grader and reject trial.
Dewatering: use gentle drainage and supported collection
Confirm any air or belt water-removal method for the smallest fruit and retained trusses. Do not apply a leafy basket-spin programme. Distinguish wash water from juice at split fruit and inspect after a realistic hold.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: trial punnet filling and seal clearance

KRONEN FLEX L
Packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual cherry tomato feeder, doser, pack length and seals. It does not establish a punnet filler, shrink-wrapper, bunch packer or every MAP option.
Check counts or weight, low drops and the path of small loose fruit. Retained stems can obstruct sealing or puncture film. The pictured bagger is a family reference; it does not demonstrate a cherry-tomato punnet filler or tray sealer.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
See tomato segments and the interchangeable cutting arrangement
The Tona V film shows a supported cutting family and tomato output. Compare fruit holding, cut geometry and collection. Small cherry-tomato holders are not verified by the film, and maintenance must follow supplier isolation procedures.

Prepare a cherry tomato equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing cherry tomato equipment
Does a cutter maximum diameter prove cherry-tomato suitability?
No. Minimum size, secure holding, blade support and collection must also be confirmed. The illustrated tomato film is not represented as a cherry-tomato acceptance run.
