Crop guide · Sweet pepper preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Sweet pepper covers more than one fruit shape. Round bell peppers and long pointed sweet peppers can require different supports and coring arrangements. The KRONEN PDS4L reference is explicitly for bell peppers and is not a validated long-pepper machine. Define the retained skin, core, seeds and finished geometry first.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole sweet peppers
Inspect → configured wash → surface drain → size/quality select → pack.
Retain stems if required; bypass coring and cutting.
Cored halves or panels
Pre-clean → orient → shape-compatible core/stem removal → inspect seeds → rinse/drain as specified → pack.
Match bell or pointed fruit to the actual preparation method.
Strips or dices
Prepare cored fruit → feed stable panels → configured cut → inspect → remove free water → dose.
Agree skin-on pieces and the handling of curved wall sections.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: protect skins and stem cavities

KRONEN HEWA 3800
General washing-family reference, not a confirmed sweet pepper installation. Confirm retention, water movement, loading, outfeed and the selected whole or cut-product route.
Trial the wash for the actual pepper shape and maturity. Check contact marks, debris near the stem and water carried inside opened fruit. The general washer reference needs crop-specific loading and discharge confirmation.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: choose a shape-compatible core method

KRONEN PDS4L
PDS4L is a bell-pepper coring/dividing reference. Confirm actual fruit fit, stem presentation, seeds and trim loss. Long pointed peppers and chillies need a different confirmed scope.
PDS4L illustrates bell-pepper orientation, coring and dividing. Long pointed sweet peppers need separately confirmed tooling or a different preparation route. Inspect residual core, seed material and useful wall loss instead of assuming all sweet peppers fit.
Cutting: stabilise prepared walls before cutting

KRONEN GS 10-2
General GS 10-2 cutting reference. Confirm actual sweet pepper support, input fit and tooling. Compare the pictured model and tooling with the actual arrangement in the film.
Bell halves, pointed panels, rings and dices are different feeds. Confirm whether coring happens before the cutter and whether wall sections lie flat. Compare skin tears, joined pieces, narrow tips and fines with retained-product samples.
Sorting: distinguish size, defects and seed remnants

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Manual inspection reference. Compare product presentation, visibility and separate rejects. It does not establish optical grading, internal-defect detection or automatic colour mixing.
Whole fruit grading precedes preparation; cored product needs a second view of the interior. Define acceptable wall colour and remaining seeds. The manual belt reference does not establish automatic internal inspection or optical colour sorting.
Dewatering: drain cavities and cut panels

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS
General removable-basket reference for a supplier-confirmed cut-product route. Test actual sweet pepper retention, damage and free water; whole products may need supported drainage instead.
Whole hollow fruit can retain water differently from strips. Trial supported drainage or the offered dewatering method for prepared cuts. A basket is not automatically suitable for every pepper format; record deformation and retained water.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: match the doser to the final form

KRONEN FLEX L
Packaging-family reference. Confirm the actual sweet pepper feeder, doser, pack length and seals. It does not establish a punnet filler, shrink-wrapper, bunch packer or every MAP option.
Whole peppers need stem and skin protection. Prepared panels may stack, while strips can bridge. Confirm the feeder and product clearance at seals. The pictured general bagger does not establish a whole-pepper wrapper or every MAP option.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Follow bell peppers through coring and dividing
KRONEN shows a PDS4L bell-pepper preparation arrangement. Compare indexed positioning, the opened interior and separate collection. The film does not validate long pointed sweet peppers, chillies, colour-mix accuracy or any quoted commercial output.

Prepare a sweet pepper equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing sweet pepper equipment
Can one bell-pepper corer process every sweet pepper?
No such scope is established. PDS4L is presented for bell peppers. Long pointed sweet peppers require explicit configuration and a representative test.
