Crop guide · Water spinach preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Start with the tender shoot: an edible leaf attached to a hollow stem. Specify the retained stem length, thickness and leaf condition. Equipment used for loose spinach leaves is not automatically a confirmed fit for long branching shoots.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole tender shoots
Select → trim bases → configured wash → drain/dewater → align and pack.
Retain shoot length and provide a supported cutter bypass.
Short cooking portions
Trim → controlled feed and cut → configured wash → dewater → portion.
Agree leaf-to-stem balance, split ends and detached-leaf limits.
Separate leaf and stem ingredients
Select → separate retained parts → process each stream → wash/dewater → dose.
Separation is preparation; cutting alone does not pick leaves from stems.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: wash nodes, folds and open ends

KRONEN HEWA 3800
Manufacturer equipment-family reference. Confirm actual water spinach input, retained product, tooling, transfers and useful output in a representative trial.
Compare whole shoots with cut portions. Inspect leaf folds, stem nodes and open ends after the trial. Track useful detached leaves in screens and waste removal; clean-looking outside surfaces do not establish internal cleanliness.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: set the tender-shoot boundary

KRONEN
A supported preparation surface with separate collection paths. Define the accepted water spinach portion before removing leaves, stalks, bases or other unwanted material.
Remove ties and unwanted bases at a supported workstation. Show the accepted shoot and discard sample. Support long stems rather than dragging useful leaves into the waste collection.
Cutting: control hollow stems at the infeed

KRONEN GS 10-2
Manufacturer equipment-family reference. Confirm actual water spinach input, retained product, tooling, transfers and useful output in a representative trial.

KRONEN GS 10-2
The detail exposes the feed and cutting assembly for explanation. Check actual water spinach support and tooling. Operation and service must follow the supplier guarding and isolation procedure.
Specify orientation, bunch depth and cut length. Check crushed stems, split ends, trailing long pieces and leaf fines. An intact-shoot product bypasses size reduction.
Sorting: expose tangled stems for selection

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Compare presentation, operator visibility, good-product collection and rejects. This reference does not prove automated detection, grading or a water spinach rejection rate.
Define unwanted material and accepted leaf condition. Compare spread, layer depth and visibility around nodes. A general inspection belt is not an automatic water-spinach detector.
Dewatering: release water without crushing shoots

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS
Compare loading, distribution, unloading and retained free water using actual water spinach. The removable-basket photograph is a family reference, not a validated crop programme.
Compare supported drainage with a supplier-confirmed basket cycle using the actual retained length. Inspect bends, split stems, clumps and free water after unloading and holding.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: align shoots or dose cut portions

KRONEN FLEX L
Compare the actual water spinach doser, drop, pack and seal clearance. Whole products or bunches may require different presentation. This reference does not establish every feeding or MAP option.
Whole shoots need support and orientation; loose portions need controlled dosing. Trial bridging, drop damage, water at seals and product crossing the sealing area. Bunches may require a different feed.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Follow loading, washing and outfeed
Compare the input presentation, supported outfeed and cleaning access with long water-spinach shoots. The film shows lettuce, not a measured kangkong trial.

- Around 1:01: An operator tips lettuce from a basket into the washer.
- Around 1:16: Lettuce leaves the vibration outlet and baskets are exchanged.

Current manufacturer links and source identity were checked. Confirm the offered version and configuration separately from historical demonstration footage. Prepare a water spinach equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing water spinach equipment
Is water spinach the same product as ordinary spinach?
No. This brief concerns water spinach, also called kangkong. Its hollow stems and retained shoots need their own handling trial.
