Weighing acceptance planning

Separate dosing performance, displayed graduation and measured weighing error.

Define the two weighing duties

Dose a portion

Measure output portions and the handover to a packer.

Check the pack

Measure moving-pack performance under the actual conveyor conditions.

Write an acceptance schedule

  • Specify representative food, target portion and packaging samples.
  • Record configuration, speed, product spacing and environmental conditions.
  • Agree reference measurements, sample sizes and reporting before the trial.
  • Compare measured error, variation, product loss and accepted output on the same basis.
  • Record failed or interrupted trials and retests rather than removing them from the comparison.

Keep the numbers distinct

A display increment, configured weighing capacity, portion target and measured error describe different things. Ask the supplier to explain how each quoted figure was established.

Questions to settle before a quotation

  • Which instruments and references will support the agreed comparison?
  • How will the buyer review the raw trial records?
  • Who sets the applicable tolerances and signs acceptance?

Ask bidders to state trial material, accepted output, losses, utilities, changeover time and scope exclusions in writing. Compare the offered configuration using the same recipe and acceptance criteria.
