Carrot processing equipment

Compare skin-on roots, peeled pieces and specified slices, sticks or dices.

Crop guide · Carrot preprocessing

Start with the retained product

Specify washed whole carrots, peeled pieces or a particular cut before buying a line. Topping/tailing, skin removal and size reduction are separate operations. Long-root alignment can determine the useful result as much as the cutter itself.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Washed skin-on roots

Trim tops/tails → soil-removal wash → inspect/size-select → drain → pack.

Keep a peeler bypass and inspect retained skin.

Peeled carrot pieces

Pre-clean → trim → peel → inspect/touch-up → wash/dewater → portion.

Specify root shape and whether pre-cutting is allowed.

Slices, sticks or dices

Prepare → peel if required → align/feed → cut → wash/dewater → pack.

Give actual cut samples: cross-cut slices, short pieces and julienne need different arrangements.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: separate soil removal from prepared-product washing

KRONEN water bunker and transfer belt beside a peeling unit
KRONEN · Manufacturer root pre-cleaning and transfer arrangement reference

KRONEN

Compare the water path, loading, product retention and outfeed with actual carrot. An illustrated machine or line stage is not an independently measured crop-cleaning result.

KRONEN GEWA 3800 ECO washing machine with vibration outfeed
KRONEN GEWA 3800 ECO · Manufacturer equipment reference from the root-line page

KRONEN GEWA 3800 ECO

Compare the water path, loading, product retention and outfeed with actual carrot. An illustrated machine or line stage is not an independently measured crop-cleaning result.

Compare incoming-root debris removal and downstream washing. The water bunker illustrates pre-cleaning/transfer and GEWA illustrates a later wash stage. Agree the clean/dirty boundary and inspect the root after each step.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: set top and tail cuts before peeling

KRONEN PL 40K abrasive root peeling machine
KRONEN PL 40K · Manufacturer equipment reference; actual root size and skin-on/peeled route need confirmation

KRONEN PL 40K

Use only when the retained-product brief requires peeling. Carrot and beetroot are explicitly listed;exact daikon and small red-radish setups need confirmation. Preserve a bypass for skin-on roots.

Show crown/tip removal on straight, curved and branched roots. PL 40K explicitly lists carrots as a peeling application. Measure useful retained product after peeling and manual touch-up, not simply the material entering the machine.

Cutting: align roots for the required cut

KRONEN GS 10-2 feed and exposed cutting assembly detail
KRONEN GS 10-2 · Mechanical-detail photograph; follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures

KRONEN GS 10-2

The detail exposes the feed and cutting assembly for explanation. Check actual carrot support and tooling. Operation and service must follow the supplier guarding and isolation procedure.

KRONEN KUJ-V cube strip and slice cutting machine
KRONEN KUJ-V · Manufacturer equipment reference; fine cutting differs from head floretting

KRONEN KUJ-V

A fine-cutting family for prepared inputs. It does not remove an intact head core. Specify input fit, tooling and desired pieces before adopting it for carrot.

The GS 10 TTS film shows a carrot cutting arrangement. Compare desired length and cross-section with actual output. KUJ-V is a separate dicing/strip/slice reference; confirm input fit and tooling.

Sorting: inspect whole-root, peel and cut quality separately

KRONEN roller inspection table for whole roots
KRONEN · Manufacturer roller-table reference; not a verified optical detector or size grader

KRONEN

Compare presentation, operator visibility, good-product collection and rejects. This reference does not prove automated detection, grading or a carrot rejection rate.

A roller inspection table illustrates whole-root presentation. Define root-size bands, peel remnants, defects and useful rework. It is not a verified optical detector or a guarantee of internal quality.

Dewatering: assess the actual cut after water removal

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS open lid and removable perforated basket
KRONEN KS-100 PLUS · Manufacturer basket-detail photograph; actual crop programme requires a trial

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS

Compare loading, distribution, unloading and retained free water using actual carrot. The removable-basket photograph is a family reference, not a validated crop programme.

Skin-on roots may need supported draining; peeled sticks or slices need a configured method. Check free water, broken pieces and fines after unloading and holding. A general basket image does not set the carrot cycle.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: match dosing to whole roots or fine pieces

KRONEN FLEX L vertical bagging machine
KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

Compare the actual carrot doser, drop, pack and seal clearance. Whole products or bunches may require different presentation. This reference does not establish every feeding or MAP option.

Whole roots and fine julienne have different feeding needs. Trial bridging, weight, transfer gaps, moisture and product in seals. The general bagger needs the actual carrot doser and pack configuration.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

Watch carrot alignment and discharge

The very short GS 10 TTS film explains alignment and the cut-product path. Confirm the offered machine version, intended cut, ends/rejects and useful output with actual carrots.

No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.

Prepare a carrot equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing carrot equipment

Is peeling required for every carrot product?

No. Skin-on washed carrots need their own acceptance standard and a peeler bypass. Select peeling only when the retained-product brief requires it.
