Sweet potato processing equipment

Compare skin-on roots, peeled pieces and fry or slice ingredients before adding downstream cooking.

Crop guide · Sweet potato preprocessing

Start with the retained product

Specify the sweet-potato variety, shape and finished product. Skin-on retail roots, peeled chunks and cut frying ingredients need different levels of preparation. Chenyue lists sweet potato for its brush washer/peeler family; that listing does not supply tested peel yield or a finished-fry process.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Washed skin-on roots

Remove loose soil → configured soft-brush wash → inspect/grade → drain → pack.

Retain skin deliberately; do not install a hard peeling brush by default.

Peeled sections

Pre-clean → trim → configured peeling → touch-up → final wash/drain → portion.

Check recesses, curves and permitted pre-cutting with actual roots.

Fries, slices or dices

Prepare → optional peel → size/feed → configured cut → wash/dewater → downstream process.

Frying, blanching or freezing are separate project duties beyond this preparation guide.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: choose washing separately from abrasive peeling

Chenyue root brush washer and peeler with stainless body and outfeed chute
Chenyue · Manufacturer equipment photograph; listed sweet potato, cassava, yam and taro family; actual brush configuration requires a trial

Chenyue

Chenyue lists sweet potato in its root washer/peeler family. Select cleaning or peeling brushes against retained-skin samples; the photograph does not establish crop settings or measured output.

Chenyue describes soft and hard brush options for the listed root family. Ask which supplied arrangement retains sweet-potato skin and which removes it. Check soil removal, skin marks and waste collection with representative shapes.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: assess peel remnants and usable loss together

KRONEN manual preparation table with blue boards and a central waste chute
KRONEN · Manufacturer workstation photograph; general preparation

KRONEN

Manual preparation reference with supported work surfaces and separate waste collection. Define accepted sweet potato portions, trim loss and touch-up before automating the duty.

Bring long, curved and thick roots. Specify top/tail removal and accepted peel coverage; inspect recesses and damaged areas after the machine. The brush image is a manufacturer reference, not a measured sweet-potato batch.

Cutting: separate fry geometry from slicing or dicing

KRONEN GS 10-2 feed and exposed cutting assembly detail
KRONEN GS 10-2 · Mechanical-detail photograph; follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures

KRONEN GS 10-2

Feed and cutting-assembly detail for explanation. Confirm actual sweet potato support and tooling. Operation and service must follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures.

KRONEN KUJ-V cube, strip and slice cutting machine
KRONEN KUJ-V · Manufacturer equipment reference; prepared-input cutting with crop-specific tooling

KRONEN KUJ-V

A fine-cutting family for prepared inputs. Specify sweet potato input fit, tools and desired pieces. This is not proof of whole rings, paste texture or any downstream preservation process.

Set cross-section, length and acceptable fragments using samples. A KUJ-V-type cutter is a general prepared-input reference. Confirm hardness, input opening and tooling; its photograph alone does not validate long sweet-potato fries.

Sorting: grade incoming roots and finished cuts

Herbort blue-belt inspection conveyor in a workshop
Herbort Inspection Belt 85 · Manufacturer workshop photograph; manual inspection reference

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

Manual inspection reference: compare product presentation, visibility, good-product collection and rejects. It does not establish automatic grading or internal-defect detection.

Agree shape, size and visible defects at intake, then peel remnants, broken fries and fines after cutting. Mechanical size selection and manual quality inspection are different duties. Keep useful rework out of the final accepted grade.

Dewatering: control surface water before the next process

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS open lid and removable perforated basket
KRONEN KS-100 PLUS · Manufacturer basket-detail photograph; actual crop programme requires a trial

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS

General removable-basket reference for a supplier-confirmed wet route. Compare actual sweet potato retention, damage and free water. Dry bulbs or dry pneumatic peeling may bypass this duty.

Compare whole-root drainage with removal from slices or fries. Trial the proposed method and record pieces lost through screens, breakage and carried water. Surface dewatering does not replace thermal drying or cooking.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: specify fresh-root and ingredient packs separately

KRONEN FLEX L vertical bagging machine
KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

Compare the actual sweet potato feeder, doser, pack and seal clearance. Whole products, bunches and pastes can need different equipment; the image does not establish every feeding or MAP option.

Whole sweet potatoes need suitable support and sizing. Cut ingredients need a doser tested for actual dimensions and moisture. Define the intended downstream process and distribution before selecting bag, film and optional gas handling.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

See roots turning against the brush rollers

The manufacturer lists this root family on its washer/peeler page. The film visibly demonstrates pale elongated roots, not a measured trial of every listed crop. Compare contact, support and the proposed brush option with your actual material.

Prepare a sweet potato equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing sweet potato equipment

Does a washer/peeler demonstration establish a sweet-potato fry line?

No. It illustrates brushing and product movement. Fry geometry, subsequent processing and finished-pack performance need separate equipment and acceptance specifications.
