Yam processing equipment

Compare washing, peeling and cutting around the actual yam species, shape and finished portion.

Crop guide · Yam preprocessing

Start with the retained product

Yam is not another name for every sweet potato. Give the supplier the actual species or commercial variety, root dimensions and retained-product samples. Chenyue lists yam for a root brush washer/peeler; its family description does not validate every long or irregular yam or any downstream food process.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Whole washed yams

Receive/inspect → soil removal → configured washing → grade → supported drainage → pack.

Retain the specified skin and whole length; protect roots at gaps and transfers.

Peeled portions

Pre-clean → permitted sectioning → configured peeling → touch-up/inspect → rinse/drain → portion.

Define whether sectioning before peeling is allowed and measure useful loss.

Slices, sticks or dices

Prepare/peel → pre-size/feed → configured cutting → wash/dewater → downstream process.

Keep cooking, drying or flour production as separate project duties.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: fit the actual long or irregular tuber

Chenyue root brush washer and peeler with stainless body and outfeed chute
Chenyue · Manufacturer equipment photograph; listed sweet potato, cassava, yam and taro family; actual brush configuration requires a trial

Chenyue

Chenyue lists yam in its root washer/peeler family. Select cleaning or peeling brushes against retained-skin samples; the photograph does not establish crop settings or measured output.

Measure maximum length, diameter and curves against the proposed machine. Trial soil removal, rotation and discharge without assuming the potato setup fits. Select the brush for cleaning or peeling according to retained skin.

Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.

Trimming: agree whole-length versus sectioned peeling

KRONEN manual preparation table with blue boards and a central waste chute
KRONEN · Manufacturer workstation photograph; general preparation

KRONEN

Manual preparation reference with supported work surfaces and separate waste collection. Define accepted yam portions, trim loss and touch-up before automating the duty.

The pictured Chenyue family includes yam in its application list. Confirm offered tools and actual species. Compare peel remnants, end losses and touch-up. A proposal that requires short sections does not satisfy an intact-length product brief.

Cutting: control slippery or irregular prepared input

KRONEN GS 10-2 feed and exposed cutting assembly detail
KRONEN GS 10-2 · Mechanical-detail photograph; follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures

KRONEN GS 10-2

Feed and cutting-assembly detail for explanation. Confirm actual yam support and tooling. Operation and service must follow supplier guarding and isolation procedures.

KRONEN KUJ-V cube, strip and slice cutting machine
KRONEN KUJ-V · Manufacturer equipment reference; prepared-input cutting with crop-specific tooling

KRONEN KUJ-V

A fine-cutting family for prepared inputs. Specify yam input fit, tools and desired pieces. This is not proof of whole rings, paste texture or any downstream preservation process.

Specify input form and desired slice, stick or dice. The general cutter/dicer images explain feeding and tooling, not measured yam performance. Check movement at the inlet, cut consistency, fragments and safe supplier-approved loading.

Sorting: grade incoming tubers and prepared portions

Herbort blue-belt inspection conveyor in a workshop
Herbort Inspection Belt 85 · Manufacturer workshop photograph; manual inspection reference

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

Manual inspection reference: compare product presentation, visibility, good-product collection and rejects. It does not establish automatic grading or internal-defect detection.

Separate whole-root size and visible defects from remaining peel and cut quality. Define accepted and rejected samples. A manual inspection table is not proof of automatic internal-quality detection.

Dewatering: check carried water and product loss

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS open lid and removable perforated basket
KRONEN KS-100 PLUS · Manufacturer basket-detail photograph; actual crop programme requires a trial

KRONEN KS-100 PLUS

General removable-basket reference for a supplier-confirmed wet route. Compare actual yam retention, damage and free water. Dry bulbs or dry pneumatic peeling may bypass this duty.

Whole roots need supported drainage. Peeled sections and cuts need a trial of the proposed water-removal arrangement. Check retained water, small pieces and damage after unloading; no universal yam centrifuge cycle is established.

Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.

Packaging: support long roots or dose prepared pieces

KRONEN FLEX L vertical bagging machine
KRONEN FLEX L · Manufacturer equipment reference; feeding, pack and options need confirmation

KRONEN FLEX L

Compare the actual yam feeder, doser, pack and seal clearance. Whole products, bunches and pastes can need different equipment; the image does not establish every feeding or MAP option.

Agree pack length and support for whole yams. Portions need an appropriate doser and transfer gaps. Set the intended downstream cooking or manufacture and the distribution brief before choosing preservation or gas options.

If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.

See roots turning against the brush rollers

The manufacturer lists this root family on its washer/peeler page. The film visibly demonstrates pale elongated roots, not a measured trial of every listed crop. Compare contact, support and the proposed brush option with your actual material.

Current manufacturer links and source identity were checked. Confirm the offered version and configuration separately from historical demonstration footage. No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.

Prepare a yam equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing yam equipment

Can a sweet-potato trial validate yam equipment?

It can illustrate a machine family, but it cannot establish the actual yam setup. Supply representative yam species, dimensions, skin condition and finished-product samples for the offered tools.
