Crop guide · Basil preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Whole basil leaves, chopped garnish and ingredients for a paste are different products. State the actual variety and retained stem content. Urschel lists basil cutting and reduction options; those applications do not make a grinder the right choice for intact garnish leaves. The herb film shows another identified herb family, with basil suitability left to an actual trial.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Whole leaves
Inspect → remove unwanted stems → configured cleaning → gentle drainage → supported pack.
Preserve leaf appearance.
Chopped basil
Prepare leaves/tender stems → supported cutting → inspect edges → dose.
Compare the retained cut form after holding.
Paste ingredients
Prepare clean retained tissue → suitable pre-cut/reduction → separately specified blending and pack.
A cutter is not a complete pesto or preserved-sauce line.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: define whether a wet step is needed

Sormac PULSTAR
Sormac lists fresh-herb washing, with actual crop and process configuration agreed separately. Trial retention, water movement and discharge for basil. No measured cleaning or storage result is adopted.
Inspect incoming condition and agree the process with the buyer. Trial gentle movement, retention and discharge using actual basil. The herb washer photograph is not proof of a basil programme or a storage benefit.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: remove stems to the intended product standard

KRONEN
KRONEN supported manual preparation table with separate waste collection. Define retained basil tissue; this is not an automatic peeler, leaf stripper or root recogniser.
Whole garnish leaves need a different retained-stem brief from paste ingredients. A supported manual station is a preparation reference, not an automatic basil stripper. Compare torn leaves and useful tissue in the waste.
Cutting: separate leaf chopping from fine reduction

KRONEN GS 10-2
KRONEN supported cutting-family reference. Confirm current tooling and actual basil suitability require confirmation. No every-cut attachment or exact version equivalence is inferred.
The KRONEN parsley/chive film illustrates supported herb feed, not an actual basil trial. Urschel separately lists basil applications for cutting and reduction. Trial cut edges, compression and the intended particle form; do not infer paste suitability from a whole-leaf result or vice versa.
Sorting: inspect after the intended hold

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Herbort manual inspection reference. Present actual basil surfaces for viewing; no automatic turning, species identification or internal scanning is established.
Agree colour and appearance criteria with accepted samples and assess edges after transfer. A manual inspection belt does not measure aroma or guarantee freedom from bruising. Distinguish the buyer specification from any measured machine result.
Dewatering: balance free-water removal with leaf integrity

Sormac SC/NextGen
Sormac lists the SC/NextGen family for herb free-water removal. Trial actual basil loading, retention and discharge. This is surface-water removal, not dried-herb manufacture or a prescribed cycle.
Test actual leaves in the proposed basket or continuous system. Compare folds, torn edges and residual water after holding. Removing surface water does not manufacture dried basil or establish a thermal drying recipe.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: support leaves or dose the intended ingredient

KRONEN FLEX L
General packaging-family reference. Confirm actual basil feeding, portion and seals. It does not establish a tray filler, paste filler, gas recipe or shelf-life result.
Whole leaves need space and controlled transfer; chopped or paste ingredients need different feeders and pumps. The general bagger does not establish paste filling, blending, gas treatment or shelf life. Keep those supplied duties explicit.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Watch supported herb presentation before the cutting chamber
KRONEN names parsley and chives in this GS 10 herb demonstration and still links it from the current GS 10-2 page. Compare support and alignment; historical GS 10 footage does not prove all current variants are identical. For coriander leaf, basil, mint and dill, this is a closely related herb-feeding reference, not an identified crop acceptance run. Trial actual leaf integrity, stem content and smallest useful pieces.

- Around 1:25: Leafy parsley with long stems lies on the blue infeed beside a white guide.
Current manufacturer links and source identity were checked. Confirm the offered version and configuration separately from historical demonstration footage. Original English watch notes provide a text alternative; no full transcript is reproduced. Playback is on YouTube. No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.
Prepare a basil equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing basil equipment
Does a basil paste machine replace whole-leaf preparation?
No. Particle reduction destroys the intact leaf presentation. Choose the retained whole, chopped or paste ingredient first, then specify equipment.
