Crop guide · Dill preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Fresh dill weed has fine fronds and stems; dill seed is a different incoming material. Define whole bunches, loose fronds or chopped ingredients before choosing screens, cutting and packing. The KRONEN herb demonstration explains supported feeding of other named herbs; actual fine-frond retention requires a dill trial.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Bunches
Inspect → trim ends → clean as specified → drain → align → pack.
Agree retained stem length.
Loose fronds
Separate unwanted stems → clean as required → retain fine leaves during drainage → portion.
Avoid treating useful fronds as fines.
Chopped dill
Prepare retained tissue → supported cutting → inspect → drain as needed → dose.
Seed cleaning and milling are separate duties.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: retain fine fronds at wash outlets

Sormac PULSTAR
Sormac lists fresh-herb washing, with actual crop and process configuration agreed separately. Trial retention, water movement and discharge for dill. No measured cleaning or storage result is adopted.
Trial screens, overflow collection and supported outfeed with actual dill. Define whether the incoming bunch route needs washing. General herb-washer photographs do not prove that the smallest useful fronds are retained or establish a cleaning result.
Include water filling and management, draining, rinse arrangements and cleaning access in the quotation. No chemical dose, microbial reduction or ready-to-eat result is established by a machine image or application list.
Trimming: separate coarse stems from useful fronds

KRONEN
KRONEN supported manual preparation table with separate waste collection. Define retained dill tissue; this is not an automatic peeler, leaf stripper or root recogniser.
Show the permitted stem content and desired bunch length. A manual station supports preparation and separate waste collection. It does not establish automatic dill stripping; inspect useful fronds lost with coarse stems.
Cutting: avoid confusing frond chopping with seed milling

KRONEN GS 10-2
KRONEN supported cutting-family reference. Confirm current tooling and actual dill suitability require confirmation. No every-cut attachment or exact version equivalence is inferred.
The KRONEN parsley/chive film illustrates belt support, not an actual dill run. Trial long flexible stems and fine leaves with the offered tool. Compare complete cuts, tangled material and useful fines. A generic herb-cutting claim does not supply a dill-seed mill.
Sorting: inspect useful fine material deliberately

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
Herbort manual inspection reference. Present actual dill surfaces for viewing; no automatic turning, species identification or internal scanning is established.
Define what counts as acceptable small fronds rather than rejecting every fine particle. Present coarse stems and unwanted plant material for viewing. A manual belt does not automatically grade frond size or detect all foreign matter.
Dewatering: check mesh retention during drainage

Sormac SC/NextGen
Sormac lists the SC/NextGen family for herb free-water removal. Trial actual dill loading, retention and discharge. This is surface-water removal, not dried-herb manufacture or a prescribed cycle.
Fine fronds can leave through gaps or collect in a compact mat. Compare support, unloading and residual water after holding. Surface-water removal is not drying to a storage moisture target and no universal spin programme is given.
Agree the free-water and damage assessment after a realistic hold, then check the next transfer and doser. Surface-water removal differs from thermal drying, cooking and sterilisation.
Packaging: prevent light fronds reaching the seal

KRONEN FLEX L
General packaging-family reference. Confirm actual dill feeding, portion and seals. It does not establish a tray filler, paste filler, gas recipe or shelf-life result.
Whole bunches and chopped dill need different dosing. Trial bridging, frond carryover and portion presentation. The bagger photograph does not establish dill-specific weighing, seed packaging or shelf life.
If MAP is proposed, obtain the exact gas-handling hardware, film, seals and distribution brief. A general bagger does not establish a gas recipe, shelf life or every optional configuration.
Watch supported herb presentation before the cutting chamber
KRONEN names parsley and chives in this GS 10 herb demonstration and still links it from the current GS 10-2 page. Compare support and alignment; historical GS 10 footage does not prove all current variants are identical. For coriander leaf, basil, mint and dill, this is a closely related herb-feeding reference, not an identified crop acceptance run. Trial actual leaf integrity, stem content and smallest useful pieces.

Current manufacturer links and source identity were checked. Confirm the offered version and configuration separately from historical demonstration footage. Original English watch notes provide a text alternative; no full transcript is reproduced. Playback is on YouTube. No crop capacity, yield, cleaning, damage or shelf-life guarantee is inferred from the film.
Prepare a dill equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing dill equipment
Can fine dill fronds be treated as waste fines automatically?
No. Agree the useful retained frond size with the buyer and test screen and transfer losses. Fresh dill weed is also different from dill seed.
