State the material and measurement basis
- Identify feed form, recipe variation, solids content and incoming condition.
- Record feed mass, evaporated or sublimated water, collected product and losses separately.
- State whether moisture is measured on a wet or dry basis and use the same basis in comparisons.
- Agree sampling locations, test method and finished-product requirements.
- Include loading, discharge, cleaning and product changes in the usable-output period.
Compare one duty at a time
Liquid feeds, frozen batches and wet particle beds present different drying duties. Establish the material balance for the selected process before comparing nominal hourly ratings. Distinguish measured sample results from supplier scale-up assumptions.
Questions to settle before a quotation
- What material and run duration represent normal and difficult conditions?
- How will residual moisture, fines, wall deposits and accepted output be recorded?
- Which figures are measured, calculated or offered as contractual guarantees?
Ask bidders to state trial material, accepted output, losses, utilities, changeover time and scope exclusions in writing. Compare the offered configuration using the same recipe and acceptance criteria.
