Watermelon processing equipment

Choose the retained watermelon product before selecting washing, preparation, cutting and packing equipment.

Crop guide · Watermelon preprocessing

Start with the retained product

A watermelon line can end with whole fruit, prepared pieces or an ingredient stream. Compare those routes before combining machines. Manufacturer references below explain equipment duties; the actual fruit, tooling and accepted output remain part of the supply specification.

Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.

Choose the finished-product route

Whole fruit

receive, inspect, clean as required, grade and support in bins or cartons.

Compare actual input and accepted output before choosing the line.

Fresh-cut pieces

clean the exterior, remove rind as ordered, cut, inspect and portion.

Compare actual input and accepted output before choosing the line.

Juice ingredients

prepare accepted flesh, address unwanted rind and seeds, reduce and transfer to the extraction process.

Compare actual input and accepted output before choosing the line.

Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.

Washing: match cleaning to the destination

Clean the exterior before a cut exposes the flesh, using a process specified for the incoming fruit and destination. Compare supported spray or brush handling and drainage around the contact points. Do not infer a validated hygiene programme from a washer photograph.

Trimming: separate peel, seed, core and stone decisions

KRONEN AMS 220 · Manufacturer equipment image

KRONEN AMS 220

KRONEN lists pineapple, melon, small watermelon and certain papaya applications. Actual dimensions and supplied tooling govern suitability; the exterior image does not establish a particular fruit trial.

Choose rind-on wedges or peeled flesh before selecting the peeler. Sormac describes watermelon use within its melon-processing family; KRONEN lists small watermelons for AMS 220. Check actual fruit dimensions and supports. A melon-family listing is not evidence that the largest watermelons fit every machine.

Cutting: choose pieces, reduction or extraction

Separate wedge cutting, skin removal and final cubing. Sormac describes the F-2000XL for large-fruit slicing and wedging. For peeled flesh, compare support and blade travel with the accepted piece. Watermelon seed handling cannot be reduced to removing a single central core.

Sorting: inspect the retained product

Herbort Inspection Belt 85

A manual inspection conveyor. Agree the viewing and reject procedure; this photograph does not establish optical or internal-defect detection.

Inspect whole fruit separately from prepared pieces. Define rind remnants, seeds, damaged flesh and irregular pieces at the ingredient stage. Manual inspection is illustrated; automatic internal-quality detection needs a separately verified system.

Dewatering: distinguish water removal from processing

Drain rinse water without using flesh compression as a drying method. Check free juice and damaged pieces at the last transfer into the packer. Thermal dehydration, pressing and concentration change the product and require other equipment.

Packaging: match the feeder and final pack

Support rind-on wedges or peeled pieces in the chosen tray, cup or bulk ingredient pack. Verify portioning, pooling and the closure interface with actual fruit. A whole-fruit bin filler is not a fresh-cut tray sealer.

Watermelon equipment reference

Sormac links this melon-peeler reference from its fruit-processing page, which also lists watermelon applications. Treat it as a machine-family reference: no watermelon size or actual filmed crop is established by this guide.

Questions to compare with the proposed equipment

  • Does the proposed fruit fit the supports and cutting clearance?
  • Is rind retained or removed?
  • How are useful pieces separated from rind, seeds and free juice?

These comparison questions follow the written equipment description. Video content and playback have not been independently reviewed. No timestamps, measured result or verified playback claim is supplied. The written guide stands on its own.

Prepare a watermelon equipment trial brief

  1. Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
  2. Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
  3. Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
  4. Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
  5. Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.

Questions before choosing watermelon equipment

Can one machine perform all watermelon preparation stages?

No. Whole-fruit handling, peeling or seed/stone removal, cutting, refining and packing have different duties. Compare actual product trials and the supplied interfaces rather than treating a machine photograph as a complete line.
