Crop guide · Blueberry preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Define the incoming blueberry and the finished product before choosing machines. Whole fresh product, frozen ingredients and further-processed material need different line interfaces.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Fresh packhouse
remove debris, present fruit, grade, portion and close the selected retail pack.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Wet ingredient route
configured cleaning and destemming, inspection, drainage and collection.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
IQF route
prepare fruit, freeze, sort the frozen product and fill ingredient packs.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: match cleaning to the destination
Separate dry packhouse handling from a wet processing line. UNIMASZ lists blueberries for washing; Lakewood distinguishes wet-line rod destemmers from equipment for frozen berries. Specify the incoming condition before combining machines.
Trimming: define the tissue to retain
Define attached-stem removal and cluster handling. Lakewood identifies different destemmer arrangements for wet and frozen material; the equipment choice must match fruit state and accepted skin condition.
Cutting: bypass or specify deliberate reduction
Whole berries normally bypass cutting. If a puree is required, reduction belongs to a different route, with a specification for retained seeds, texture and downstream transfer.
Sorting: separate grading from preparation

TOMRA KATO
A historical KATO installation illustrates fruit presentation. Confirm current models and the actual proposed sensor package separately.
TOMRA current blueberry material separates infeed, fresh grading and IQF sorting. The older KATO installation photograph is a historical handling reference; it is not a claim that the same model is currently offered.
Dewatering: control free water
Where washing is specified, check water at the final transfer and fruit-surface condition. Keep deliberate dehydration for dried blueberries separate from removal of rinse water.
Packaging: specify the feeder and pack

TOMRA KETE
A historical KETE installation illustrates the filling interface. It does not establish current model availability or supplied pack-closing equipment.
Compare filling of punnets, cups or boxes with ingredient bagging. The KETE installation image is historical; verify the current offered filler, weighing interface and format rather than treating that image as a quotation.

Questions to compare with the proposed equipment
- Which fruit state enters the machine?
- Where are drops and accumulation points?
- Does the filler portion berries or also close the pack?
These comparison questions follow the written equipment description. Video content and playback have not been independently reviewed. No timestamps, measured result or verified playback claim is supplied. The written guide stands on its own.
Prepare a blueberry equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing blueberry equipment
Does this establish a ready-to-run blueberry line?
No. Manufacturer references explain equipment roles. Agree actual input, retained product, supplied configuration, interfaces and acceptance samples in a supplier trial.
