Crop guide · Cranberry preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Define the incoming cranberry and the finished product before choosing machines. Whole fresh product, frozen ingredients and further-processed material need different line interfaces.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Fresh fruit
clean as specified, inspect, grade and pack.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Frozen fruit
prepare, freeze, sort and portion.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Dried or juice ingredients
specify the separate cutting, infusion, drying or extraction process before final sorting and packing.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: match cleaning to the destination
Receive cranberries according to their actual harvest and storage condition. Define field debris and the required cleaning step; a water-harvest image alone does not establish a factory washing programme.
Trimming: define the tissue to retain
Remove unwanted plant material and reject damaged fruit. Peeling is not an automatic cranberry step; state the retained skin and finished-product requirement.
Cutting: bypass or specify deliberate reduction
Keep whole fruit separate from sliced ingredients and juice preparation. Infusion and dehydration alter the product and are additional processes, not options implied by a sorter.
Sorting: separate grading from preparation

TOMRA 5C
A sorting-machine family exterior. Specify actual fresh, frozen or dried input and defect samples; no detection percentage or food-safety guarantee is inferred.

Herbort Inspection Belt 85
A manual inspection conveyor. Agree the viewing and reject procedure; this photograph does not establish optical or internal-defect detection.
TOMRA distinguishes fresh, frozen and dried cranberries. Specify the relevant state and defect samples. Do not assign a dried-fruit sorting programme to wet incoming cranberries without application verification.
Dewatering: control free water
Remove free process water only to the requirement of the next step. Creating a dried cranberry requires a separately defined dehydration process, with its own product acceptance criteria.
Packaging: specify the feeder and pack

KRONEN FLEX L
A general bagging-family reference. Confirm actual fruit state, feeder, film and portion. Retail tray filling and liquid filling are separate duties.
Fresh bags, frozen ingredient packs, dried-fruit portions and juice filling use different feeding and closure systems. Define sticking, surface liquids and required package format before selecting the packer.
Compare actual product in a supplier trial
For cranberries, specify fresh, frozen or dried input before selecting a sorting programme. A generic berry film does not establish the actual cranberry application.
Prepare a cranberry equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing cranberry equipment
Does this establish a ready-to-run cranberry line?
No. Manufacturer references explain equipment roles. Agree actual input, retained product, supplied configuration, interfaces and acceptance samples in a supplier trial.
