Crop guide · Redcurrant preprocessing
Start with the retained product
Define the incoming redcurrant and the finished product before choosing machines. Whole fresh product, frozen ingredients and further-processed material need different line interfaces.
Compare washing, trimming or peeling, cutting, sorting, dewatering and packaging below. Attributed manufacturer images explain equipment roles. General family references require the actual crop configuration and a representative trial.
Choose the finished-product route
Fresh bunches
retain the strig, inspect and support during packing.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Individual berries
clean as specified, strip stems, inspect, drain and portion.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Frozen or processed ingredients
prepare individual berries before the separate freezing or reduction stage.
Agree the retained product and acceptance samples before selecting the complete line.
Agree pre-cleaning, trimming, cutting and final-wash order for the incoming material and intended use. These routes are specification aids, not universal process settings.
Washing: match cleaning to the destination
A fresh bunch pack and a destemmed ingredient line have different targets. UNIMASZ lists currants for wet processing; confirm whether the proposed route retains strigs and evaluate berry release during washing.
Trimming: define the tissue to retain

Herbort 28 BS/C
Herbort explicitly lists blackcurrants and redcurrants. This is an exterior view, not exposed roller action; cherry capacity figures are not adopted for currants.
Bypass destemming when the buyer wants intact bunches. Herbort explicitly lists redcurrants for its roller-based destemmer family for the individual-berry route; specify residual stalk and berry-damage samples.
Cutting: bypass or specify deliberate reduction
Whole berries and bunches bypass a cutter. Reduction for puree or juice is a separate operation after unwanted stems have been addressed.
Sorting: separate grading from preparation

TOMRA 5C
A sorting-machine family exterior. Specify actual fresh, frozen or dried input and defect samples; no detection percentage or food-safety guarantee is inferred.
TOMRA identifies fresh and frozen redcurrant sorting applications. Agree the actual feed condition and reject classes; strig retention in a retail bunch cannot be inferred from individual-berry sorting.
Dewatering: control free water
Inspect retained water in bunches separately from free water around individual berries. Use actual supported drainage trials before choosing air handling or other dewatering equipment.
Packaging: specify the feeder and pack

KRONEN FLEX L
A general bagging-family reference. Confirm actual fruit state, feeder, film and portion. Retail tray filling and liquid filling are separate duties.
Support bunches without compressing the fruit. Individual fresh or frozen berries need a different feeder and pack; confirm closure, leakage and handling damage for the chosen format.
Redcurrant manufacturer reference
Herbort lists redcurrants for the 28 BS/C family and links this family video. It belongs with loose-berry preparation, rather than intact-bunch retail packing. The filmed crop has not been independently established here.

Questions to compare with the proposed equipment
- Is the accepted product a bunch or loose berries?
- Where are strigs removed?
- Does the sorting footage match the proposed fruit state?
These comparison questions follow the written equipment description. Video content and playback have not been independently reviewed. No timestamps, measured result or verified playback claim is supplied. The written guide stands on its own.
Prepare a redcurrant equipment trial brief
- Bring representative input: variety, maturity, size, incoming condition and seasonal variation.
- Show accepted and rejected samples: retained skin, leaf, stem, head or cut form, useful rework and finished pack.
- Record useful output: trim/peel loss, damage, fines, missed defects, free water and rejected packs.
- Test interfaces: product supports, drops, screens, drainage, dose control, stops and restart.
- Confirm supplied configuration: safe access, guards, tooling, water circuits, utilities, cleaning and training.
Questions before choosing redcurrant equipment
Does this establish a ready-to-run redcurrant line?
No. Manufacturer references explain equipment roles. Agree actual input, retained product, supplied configuration, interfaces and acceptance samples in a supplier trial.
